World Otaku Day

All across the world Otaku’s are in celebration of World Otaku Day, 15 December 2015. A day dedicated to them where they can happily and proudly express their anime and manga loving selves. However is world otaku day an actual thing or a fad someone dreamed up in their room?

There are many posts on various social media platforms where otaku’s are merrily saying ‘happy world otaku day’. It would appear that this started in 2012 and has since been celebrated. As such it means that it is a relatively new ‘holiday’ to be celebrated.

On various platforms the way to celebrate is by watching a certain amount of anime episodes and reading so many manga volumes. There seem to be multiple days for otaku’s to celebrate. However 15th December is different as it was created by the fans, for the fans.

At the end of the day it has been created solely by anime and manga fans. To recognise fellow otaku’s you are supposed to write ^w^ on your wrist. That is also supposed to show your otaku pride.

Real or not, I feel that World Otaku Day is a way for the world to come together (even if it is only a small percentage of the online world) and have fun celebrating their common interests. It is a harmless celebration that I hope one day it really makes it’s presence known both online and offline.

The only thing left to say now is,

Happy World Otaku Day!
