One Punch Man

  • Genre: Action, Parody, Superhero, Comedy
  • Season: 1
  • Episodes:Ā 12

About:

OPM_Characters.pngThe story follows Saitama, a man who is a hero for fun. It is set in a fictionalĀ metropolis, City Z where monsters are a reality. Ā The monsters all mysteriously appear and cause catastrophes. Saitama, the main protagonist, can easily defeat any opponent with a single punch, hence the name One Punch Man. However due to the ease of defeating his opponents Saitama has become bored and depressed. He longs for the rush he use to feel while fighting.

He eventually and unwillingly gets his ownĀ disciple, the cyborg Genos. It is then revealed that Saitama’s hair fell out through excessive physical training. In hopes of officially being recognized as a hero, Genos and Saitama join the Heroes Association. Genos is instantly added to the rank S-Class while Saitama is placed in the bottom of the C-class heros (the lowest rank).

Despite the fact that he keeps defeating many strong monsters that even the Heroes Associationā€™s top members are unable to defeat, Saitama struggles to gain respect. Ā He is even thought to be stealing other hero’s credit in order to climb the ranks in the Heroes Association.

Very few people acknowledge his true strength,Ā incredible talent and humility towards others.

Throughout the series Saitama makes new friends, rivals and enemies while facing new challenges and complications.

My Thoughts:Ā

I came across One Punch Man purely because of the hype and when I watched the first episode I asked myself what is this crap? However I was encouraged to carry on watching and here we are at the end of the season. I still think that there are some weak plot holes but they are covering them up and adding more to the story. I instantly liked the character Speed of Sound Sonic and it is because of him that I continued to watch but then I actually began to like the anime itself. It is not solely focused on the fights, like some other anime I could mention. There is a deeper story line developing underneath the surface that I feel holds some potential. Some of the comedy is a bit slap stick for me and slightly over the top but I usually prefer more subtle humor. On the whole if I had not been told to watch past episode two I probably wouldn’t have but I am glad that I did. I will agree however that it is over hyped.

  1. One Punch Man is not the best anime. But it definitely makes you laugh.
It doesn’t have character development, not a great storyline.
But again it definitely was funny!
