Filler Free Rurouni Kenshin

With the remake of Rurouni Kenshin announced, I decided it was time for me to rewatch the original before the remake airs. With that decision made, I knew I had limited time and had to decide whether to cut out the filler episodes in my rewatch or just watch the whole thing again. I went with watching it all again – since I feel 100 episodes is not all that much – but I already had the filler list made. Thus I decided to share it here with all of you.

Did you know that Rurouni Kenshin has filler episodes and that the original anime is roughly 40% filler? Filler (not derived from the source) and canon (derived from the source) content make up a significant portion of the episodes. The filler episodes for Kenshin tend to blend in and are not obvious filler episodes. These fillers are also not really discussed amongst the anime community much. Showing if done well, we as a community do not really care much if there is filler content.

Rurouni Kenshin episodes that are fully filler:

  • 13-18,
  • 22,
  • 25-27,
  • 63-78,
  • 83-94,
  • 99-100

The filler takes Rurouni Kenshin down from 100 episodes to 60 episodes. That is 42 hours of watch time being reduced by roughly 17 hours. Watching the entirety of Rurouni Kenshin without filler will take around 25 hours. I am including the OVA episodes to make up the 100 episodes of Rurouni Kenshin.

Episodes that are part-filler and part cannon:

  • 1,
  • 79-82

Well there you have it, now you can skip the filler completely.

  1. Wow! Thank you so much! This is so helpful for Kenshin fans that want to re-watch the series, but don’t have a ton of time to spend on it. Just yesterday I was thinking that I needed to re-watch this anime because of a blog post series I’ll be working on in a couple months and knowing which episodes I can just skip will save me a lot of time. Again, Thank you!
