In this intense episode 12 of Mayonaka Punch, the tension continues to build as Masaki and the others face the terrifying situation of being hunted during a high-stakes live stream. The episode is packed with suspense, character development, and emotional highs and lows, leaving viewers questioning the intentions behind the livestream and the unfolding events.

MAYONAKA PUNCH Episode 12 is available here on Crunchyroll.

“With Live still nowhere to be found, the only hope for Mayonaka Punch is to bet it all on hitting a million subscribers in a single night!” ~ Crunchyroll

Toofs! As suspected, the plan hinges on a high-stakes game of tag streamed live. It’s a risky move, relying heavily on the audience humouring them and not believing they are vampires.

MAYONAKA PUNCH Episode 12

It is sad how quickly Tokage was taken down…Fu at least had her mini-speech. Why is Ichiko limping? Did she get hurt? I am so glad Masaki grabbed her and hauled it. Thankfully, Masaki grabbed her and made a run for it. However, something feels off. Masaki’s ability to outrun and outmanoeuvre vampires, especially while carrying Ichiko and a laptop, seems improbable. I am now second-guessing myself since Yuki broke her ‘persona’ while live streaming. I am glad that we get so many vampire teeth shots in this episode.

Now Ichiko is bleeding? Wouldn’t snacking on Masaki help her heal? Rather a nap. Seeing the live comments, both positive and negative, adds a layer of realism. It’s disheartening to witness Masaki struggle with the negativity, but I’m relieved she’s finally acknowledging the positive feedback.

I am glad Masaki joined the live, but why did she not even attempt to rescue the others? Masaki doing an impromptu apology is refreshing to see but I feel that this is not the time to be apologising for everything.

It seems like Live is one of the hunters. I am almost certain – just from the circling. It does not sit right. However, Masaki’s ability to escape the hunters feels almost too easy, given her human limitations. If they’re truly hunters, why are they struggling with her? I am hoping that this is not a prank.

It’s nice seeing Tsuma again. I genuinely like his character. He is so sweet to help them out like this, sharing their stream link on his social media. I am glad that we get to briefly see the other vtubers in this episode.

Masaki’s ability to evade the hunters stretches credibility. If they are indeed hunters, why are they struggling with a single human? Why bother with her at all when the vampires are already captured? Perhaps I’m overthinking it.

Why go up to the roof? You are stuck there. Only one entry? Masaki isn’t overly bright for repeating this mistake. It is Live, it can only be Live under that mask. Oh man, even the question ‘Why did you decide to be on camera?’ It can only be Live. I do not like the direction this episode is going. I am glad to see some positive comments in the comment swirl around Masaki now.

Revealing their promise on the live stream, without context, is a wild move. “To make a meal of me once we hit a million subs” leaves much open to interpretation. Masaki leaping off of the building shows just how desperate she is and how much she has been backed into a corner. I knew Live would catch her – it was predictable. Another full circle moment.

I would be livid. This so-called prank crosses the line. Joking about a loved one’s disappearance or potential severe injury or death is unacceptable. There are lines that should not be crossed. It’s manipulative and emotionally abusive. My trust would be broken and I would be so hurt. This was not a prank. The emotional stress Masaki was under. The stress Masaki endured is upsetting, and the method used to get her in front of the camera leaves a bad taste. The participants’ casual disregard for Masaki’s well-being is appalling. Their focus on the outcome, rather than the harm inflicted, is infuriating.

Thankfully, the changed deadline was a lie, and they still have a month. Masaki revoking the promise in response to this pernicious prank is satisfying. Live and the others may have meant well, but their actions were manipulative and harmful.

Things I remember from the previous episode which looking back is foreshadowing – the equipment that they had for the live stream. Even Masaki questioned it and it was a valid question that we now know the answer to.

How Live and Masaki met twenty years ago is so stupid that it works for them. I can see why Live doesn’t want to really explain it to Masaki. At least we know why Live is so obsessed with Masaki’s blood now.

This episode of Mayonaka Punch is emotionally charged and rife with manipulation, leaving a bitter aftertaste as Masaki struggles to regain control after a cruel prank. The ongoing livestream brings out her vulnerabilities, and though there are moments of clarity and small victories, it’s clear that Masaki has a long way to go in both her personal journey and her relationships with others. The emotional trauma caused by this episode’s events will no doubt have lasting effects on Masaki, and it remains to be seen how she will navigate this going forward.
