It is that time of year where I start looking at my overall finances and goals for the year ahead and see how I can make the two of them line up. Having said that, I have decided to actively become more involved in the ‘geek’ community in my area – a.k.a basically Gauteng and just beyond.

Thus I have decided I shall go to more than just rAge this year. Don’t get me wrong, I am an avid rAge attendee and really do enjoy it but I want more. Or to be precise, I need more. I can not just limit myself to a single event in October.

With that in mind, I went on a hunt for events that match up with my particular interests that are not too far away. I was pleasantly surprised with the results of my search.

  • May – GeekFest
  • June/July – iCon
  • July – rush E-sport
  • September – ComicCon
  • October – rAge

That is a total of five events where I can meet like-minded people and interact with the community. The planning for these five has got me really excited and I will be doing posts on each of the five listed above as we get closer to them.

So in preparation for that, what would you like to learn about each of the above? Let me know and I shall try to get the answers for you. (^^,)

Then, are you aware of any other events or such that would appeal to a manga and anime fan such as myself? I know Smallville Comics do things occasionally and I would really like to go to them one time or other.

Are you planning to attend any cons or expos this year?

  1. […] When I first really fell into the whole ‘anime’ world and really got into it, there weren’t really stores or events in South Africa that helped me express this new found passion of mine. Or rather, so I had thought. It was only after talking to other people at rAge did I learn that there were possible “anime” cons & expos that I was missing out on. So after some digging and a lot of questions I now have a few that I am lining up on my calendar and planning my budget around. I know that I will be adding more since I have learnt of more events that might possibly be happening again this year. I just hope there is no double booking like there had been last year. […]

  2. I really love going to events… Although here in Portugal we don’t have many :/ I hope that this year I can go to Iberanime in May and Comicon in September (?) – still doesn’t have a final date.
