MAYONAKA PUNCH Episode 5 – Blood-or-Die! Desert Island Survival
Live seems to particularly enjoy O-type blood bags. I am genuinely curious as to where they get all the blood to feed the vampires. The sleep-deprived bags under Masaki’s eyes feel like looking in a mirror. Finally, we have some clarity on what each member is bringing to the channel, content-wise. Looking at their content roster, I am a tad confused about what the purpose or direction of their channel actually is:
- Live – Mukbang
- Fū – Music Covers
- Ichiko – Cooking
- Tokage – Gambling

Imagine renting an entire island. A beach episode was not on my expectation list for this episode. I am glad that Masaki is giving creative freedom to the other members of the channel, but I do have conflicted feelings in the way she seems to be doing it in the form of ‘punishment’.
The vampires being forced to go to the island without any warning or preparation is rough. Literally in the middle of their usual routine, work, shopping for dinner and next thing they know, deserted island. At least the vampires don’t need human food and can fly to get supplies if needed.

I see Live has sufficiently prepared with two ring lights and batteries. Plus she put together an agenda for the week with daily tasks and goals. I’m glad she’s taking on the challenge of content creation seriously. Her drawings of the desired result and teamwork are precious. The rest not being impressed with her plan and drawings is amusing to watch. And there are the swimsuits to go with the beach episode.

Say what you will, Live knows how to motivate the team. I am looking forward to the teamwork and I am anticipating chaos. Live found a great haul with the flotsam (“discarded” items that are washed up by the sea) and gets back to camp to see that Tokage has built them a whole friggen wooden house. How in the flying fudge did she do that? I too would be sad to swap the house out for the tarp tent.
The team performing above human capabilities is great to watch. They are doing what they must but failing in the correct execution method for it to be content-worthy. Forgetting to hit the record button is way too relatable.

Is it sad that I would watch someone gamble against wildlife? Live trying to keep them all on track is interesting to watch. I think she is struggling. Them catching a marlin made me laugh out loud. The vampires forgot to pack their blood.
Day three on the island and they are facing a typhoon as well as a lack of blood. Tokage trying so hard to get off of the island is entertaining and shows that the vampires are stuck and now need to genuinly survive on the island. Day four and their cave that they used for shelter is flooded. I wonder how they will explain Ichiko‘s absense since she has turned into a bat.

Masaki is completely oblivious to their troubles. She is shopping and upgrading the system and their set up. It made me wonder if their channel is finally monitised. Day 5 and the girls are still in the cave blood starved. Fū has also turned into a bat. Masaki is editing another video and we quickly move on to day 6. Tokage shows bravado as she too turns into her bat form. Live is the last one standing in her human form. On the 7th day, Masaki is checking their equipment and set up with a test run of their intro. Live is hoping that Masaki will come to rescue them like she has been hoping since day 3. Even though she is blood-starved and drained she is committed to completing the video.

Day 8 and Masaki starts to question why the girls are not back yet. She finally sees that they have left their blood supply at home. Side note – Did Live not go twenty years without blood because she was sleeping? Why is the one week so difficult now? When I think about it this becomes a big question for me and makes the direness of their lack of blood seem pointless.

I am glad that Yuki revealed that Masaki was worried and stressed about the vampires. Live being mainly focused on letting Masaki down with their ‘failure’ to capture content and follow the plan shows that she is long-lived. Being on the brink of death apparently, getting blood in time and miraculously surviving takes a back seat to possibly disappointing Masaki. It tells me that she is not too concerned by death or the prospect of death. The benefit of being a vampire. She prioritises her promise for Masaki’s blood, even over her own life.

Masaki consoling Live at the end and promising to teach her how to edit was a great way to conclude the beach survival episode. Seeing their friendship bloom feels rewarding.
