While putting together my initial list for anime characters that have healing abilities – both learned and innate – I came to realise a startling fact that I had never noticed before. A lot of anime characters that self-heal, like Ban from the Seven Deadly Sins, are predominantly male; while characters that heal others are predominately female.
You do get the ‘mob’ characters that seem to even it out but the actual ‘main’ healing characters have a very clear gender preference.
Most of the characters I could think of straight away were female. It took a little more thinking to find and remember male characters to try to add some balance to this list. I have left off self-healing characters and have focused predominantly on characters that are able to heal others.
The male characters were more taught how to be a doctor or how to heal, whereas the women had a more natural edge or gift.
1. Giorno Giovanna
Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Giorno Giovanna’s healing abilities spring not from his own body, but from his stand, Gold Experience Requiem. As its abilities evolve, Giorno discovers that he can use it to recreate human body parts – including organs, bones, and muscle – allowing him to heal mortal wounds and cure some illnesses.
2. Orihime Inoue
Anime: Bleach
Orihime possesses a wide variety of incredible abilities, most of which derive from Shun Shun Rikka, a flower-shaped hairpin that can summon different combinations of spirits. One technique allows her to reject or nullify any event or phenomenon that she finds undesirable. Thus she is able to heal anyone by rejecting or negating an injury, making it as if it had never happened.
3. Wendy Marvell
Anime: Fairy Tail
Wendy is able to heal everything from motion sickness to fatal injuries. She does this by manipulating pure air and using it to cure poisons, restore memories, and heal potentially fatal injuries.
4. Black Jack
Anime: Black Jack
Black Jack is an unlicensed master surgeon who charges ridiculous fees to many people to perform miraculous surgeries and cure impossible ailments and afflictions.
5. Tsunade
Anime: Naruto
Tsunade is hailed as the world’s greatest medical-nin, able to identify ailments at a glance and treat conditions that other medical-nin deem impossible to cure.
6. Recovery Girl
Anime: My Hero Accademia
Recovery Girl’s quirk, Heal, allows her to harness the power of a target’s immune system to rapidly heal injuries and illnesses. She can’t fix everything – if a person’s immune system is too weak, she can’t do much with it, and she also can’t go too hard, or else she risks causing further damage.
7. Tamayo
Anime: Demon Slayer
Tamayo had displayed impressive skills in the fields of medicine and pharmaceuticals, possessing the skill to alter her own body so she could survive on only a small amount of human blood. She was also able to convert the terminally ill Yushiro into a Demon without Muzan’s blood. She also assists Shinobu Kocho in saturating her body with deadly Wisteria poison without it so much as causing her the slightest illness.
8. Asia Argento
Anime: Highschool DxD
She possesses a rare Sacred Gear, Twilight Healing, in her body that is capable of healing the wounds of Humans, Angels, Fallen Angels, and Devils alike.
9. Sailor Saturn
Anime: Sailor Moon
Due to her latent identity as Sailor Saturn, Hotaru Tomoe is able to heal minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, and bruises. Once her true nature is awakened, her healing powers increase tremendously, allowing her to restore the villainous Amazon Quartet to their true identities as Chibiusa’s Sailor Senshi.
10. Tony Tony Chopper
Anime: One Piece
Tony Tony Chopper is the doctor of the Straw Hat crew. Being the doctor of the crew, Chopper possesses a vast knowledge of both medicine and medical drugs as well as the preparations of most remedies and ointments ranging from regular fruits, roots, and vegetables that can be found and used on most islands. He is also capable of administering surgery and resuscitation.
11. Sakura Haruno
After being trained by Tsunade, Sakura is able to use medical ninjutsu, which demanded her refined chakra control. As such, Sakura can heal even the most fatal of injuries.

12. Elizabeth Liones
Anime: The Seven Deadly Sins
Elizabeth is able to rapidly heal almost any injury or ailment that a person can suffer from. She can also heal large groups of people simultaneously, and restore energy and stamina.
13. Dende
Anime: Dragon Ball Z
Dende is a Namekian who took Kami’s place as the Earth’s guardian. Though he possesses many abilities, only his healing powers are unique to him. These powers not only allow him to heal wounds but also to instantly repair damaged clothing or other inanimate materials.
14. Unohana Retsu
Anime: Bleach
Unohana is a master healer. She is the most knowledgeable on health-related matters in all of Soul Society. She is known to be highly proficient in conventional healing techniques and herbal healing. Her knowledge of anatomy is great enough that upon examination of Aizen’s “dead body”, she concluded it was not Aizen or even real. She is also able to heal more than just Shinigami, as shown when she heals Yasutora Sado, a Human, as well as Gantenbainne Mosqueda, an Arrancar.
15. Mimosa Vermillion
Anime: Black Clover
Mimosa uses healing magic for recovery purposes and she’s described as talented as a healer mage. During her training in the Heart Kingdom, she learns to create magic circles that allow her to extend the range of her healing spells.
