By this point, most Fairy Tail fans are aware that the adventure did not end with the completion of the main Fairy Tail manga and anime. Since it was soon followed by the Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest manga, and we are now waiting for the air date of the anime. However, not many fans know that there are several spin-off series and one-shots of our favourite characters and their adventures.
The following are extensions of the original Fairy Tail, but not all of the below titles were written or illustrated by Hiro Mashima. A number of them also explore ‘what-if’ possibilities.
Spin-offs before the completion
Fairy Tail Matsuri
- Chapters: 4
Fairy Tail Matsuri is a combination of four special one-shots by Hiro Mashima. They follow Natsu, Lucy, Juvia, Gray, Erza, and Frosch.
Fairy Tail S: Tales from Fairy Tail
- Chapters: 18
While our magic-wielding heroes aren’t always on missions, it doesn’t imply they can relax at home. What happens when a copycat thief tarnishes Fairy Tail’s good name, or when a seemingly unstoppable infection threatens Magnolia Town’s residents? Can Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Erza turn the tables after a bet goes sour during the Grand Magic Games? In nine funny short stories, experience what a “day in the life” of Fiore’s strongest guild is like!
Fairy Tail the Movie: Priestess of The Phoenix-The Sunrise
This manga introduces us to Eclaire and Momo, the protagonists of the Fairy Tail movie. It follows the journey of the duo from how they met to their following adventures.
Fairy Tail x The Seven Deadly Sins Christmas Special
When Meliodas asks Elizabeth if she wants a Christmas present, she says she wants a talking cat, which irritates Hawk. Hawk asserts that no such thing as a talking cat exists, just as they meet Happy. Hawk feels neglected and wanders off into Magnolia as Elizabeth and Meliodas marvel at the sight of the talking cat. Meliodas goes out into the town, questioning various residents (including Erza Scarlet) about Hawk. He finally finds Hawk, who is wearing a pair of cat ears atop his head, after a little more searching. When Meliodas and Hawk arrive at Elizabeth’s location, they discover that she has also vanished.
Fairy Tail: Ice Trail
- Chapters: 15
After witnessing his entire village being destroyed by an evil demon and the death of his master, Gray Fullbuster sets out westwards in search of new sights and unimaginable power. On his journey, he keeps his master’s teachings close to his heart while aiming to master his ice.
Fairy Tail Zero
- Chapters: 13
Mavis Vermilion, 6-years-old, is a servant at the Red Lizard wizard guild. Mistreated by the guild master and his daughter Zera, she remains optimistic. Her mother once told her that fairies don’t visit people who cry about their problems and her only dream is to see a fairy. After the Red Lizard guild gets destroyed by another guild, Mavis saves Zera from the wreckage. They are the only two survivors on the island. Seven years later, Warrod Sequen, Precht, and Yuri Dreyer, three powerful treasure hunters, arrive on the island in search of a powerful jade gemstone.
Fairy Tail: Blue Mistral
- Chapters: 17
Blue Mistral tells the storey of Wendy Marvell, a sky-dragon slayer, and her lifelong friend Carla, as well as the adventures they had before joining the Fairy Tail guild. Wendy Marvell was raised by the dragon Grandeeney to practise sky dragon slayer magic, which is based on wind. Carla, a magical cat exiled from her home, is her only friend. When Grandeeny mysteriously vanishes, Wendy and Carla are left to face the Dragon Valley’s perils alone.
- Chapters: 21
Wizards are common in the kingdom of Fiore, but the powerful women of Fairy Tail are one-of-a-kind! Lucy, Erza, Wendy, and Juvia deserve a break after fighting their way to the top of the Grand Magic Games. The wizards leave the victory celebration to go sightseeing as a group, but where Fairy Tail goes, trouble follows, and they soon find themselves caught in yet another chaotic bout of spell-slinging… with Fiore’s fate hanging in the balance!
Fairy Tail Gaiden
- Chapters: 51
Rogue Cheney, the Shadow Dragon, and Sting Eucliffe, the White Dragon. These two powerful Dragon Slayer wizards are the Sabertooth guild’s faces, but they didn’t start out that way – both wizards have had to forge their own path as heroes through fantastical adventures and hard-won battles. Discover how two of Fiore’s most powerful wizards got their start! “Twin Dragons of Sabertooth,” “Rhodonite,” and “Lightning Gods” are the three stories in the series, each focusing on a different Fairy Tail character.
Manga after the completion
Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest
- Chapters: 105+
Natsu Dragneel and his Fairy Tail wizard guild team embark on the 100 Years Quest, a mission that has been unfinished for over a century, on the northern continent of Guiltina, one year after Zeref and Acnologia’s deaths. The team discovers their mission is to seal the Five Dragon Gods, a group of Dragons whose power threatens to destroy the world. Meanwhile, Touka, a new member of Fairy Tail, is possessed by a witch who seeks to seize the Dragons’ powers for her own ends.
Fairy Tail: Happy’s Heroic Adventure
- Chapters: 80
Fairy Tail’s Happy is isekai-ed to another world. He becomes a hero, helping the beings of his new world while he is guided by a mysterious talking heart. What happened to him? Will Happy ever return to his world, to Natsu and the rest of the Fairy Tai guild?
Fairy Tail: City Hero
- Chapters: 45
Lucy, a rookie cop, has just been assigned to the Magnolia Police Department’s Team Fairy Tail, a special unit. She’ll protect Fiore City from wrongdoers like motorcycle gangs, stalkers, bank robbers, and masked thieves with the help of its completely outlandish members, including Natsu!
- Chapters: 10
On True Island, the Fairy Tail guild is taking a well-deserved break when Natsu is drawn into the jungle by the scent of delicious fruit. There he meets Shiki, a young boy who is also on the lookout for the same fruit. On the other hand, Haru and his friends are also on the island and plan to destroy something called “Oasis.” HERO’S is a spin-off manga mini-series written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima that began serialisation on October 16, 2019. Rave Master, Fairy Tail, and Edens Zero are three of Mashima’s manga series that are combined in this mini-series. Mashima announced in February 2020 that the manga would be renamed “Mashima HERO’S” in order to improve search engine results and that he was considering writing a sequel to the storey.
Have you read any of the above manga? My personal favourite spin-off is Gray’s Ice Trail.
