10 Anime I am Watching This Season

The new anime season, spring 2021, has just begun. Some of the below-mentioned anime have already aired their first episode. These lists reveal a lot about my tastes and by going through the seasonal list I can see the current trends and popular themes. The winter season had a lot of great new anime and I am hoping this spring brings a few gems with it.

Koi to Yobu ni wa Kimochi Warui

What is it about: Amakusa Ryou is a distinguished business man who happens to be ‘saved’ by high school girl, Arima Ichika. He falls in love with her and pursues her head on. Ichika is not impressed with his declaration and dismisses him as well as insults him. However, not discouraged, Ryou decides to still pursue her with the occasional aid of his sister, who just happens to also be Ichika’s best friend.

Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou.

What is it about: Office worker Yoshida is heartbroken after having his confession rejected. On his way home after ‘drowning his sorrows’, he meets high school runaway Sayu Ogiwara. He invites her over to his house and offers to let her stay. Not swayed by her attempts at seduction, he decides on a different form of rent – household chores.

Mars Red

What is it about: Set in 1923, the number of vampires has started to increase after the emergence of Ascra, an artificial blood source. “Code Zero” is a Japanese army unit dedicated to eliminating the vampiric threat. They start entertaining the idea of using vampires to ferret out other vampires.

Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou Desu

What is it about: During a saint summoning ritual, something went awry and summoned two people. 20-year-old Sei is an ordinary office worker who suddenly finds herself in a new world. Disregarded and ignored as the second accidental summon, she sets about building a new life for herself making potions and cosmetics with her newfound magic. She just does not want her “Saint” title being discovered and ruining her new life.

Kyuukyoku Shinka shita Full Dive RPG ga Genjitsu yori mo Kusoge Dattara

What is it about:  Hiro Yuuki gets his hands on Kiwame Quest, a full dive role-playing game. The game claims to take “reality to its extremes,” from amazing graphics, interesting NPC interactions, vivid scents and all too real consequences from in-game damage taken. Can Yuuki beat this stressful game that just can not be played casually? Especially because the game reflects the players’ real-life physical abilities.

What is it about: The legendary “Immortal Tatsu,” has given up his violent yakuza ways to start his life as an honest stay-at-home househusband. What could possibly go wrong?

What is it about: Shoutarou Futaba, is fascinated with men’s rhythmic gymnastics. He enrols at Ao High School to join the school’s gymnastic team.

Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita

What is it about: Azusa Aizawa was an average salary woman who works herself to death. She reincarnates into a new world as an immortal witch. While enjoying her days as an eternal vacation she makes money killing slimes. After hundreds of years of killing slimes she winds up maxing out and rumours of the max level “Witch of the Plateau” spread.

Edens Zero

What is it about: Shiki has spent his life amoungst machines at the abandoned amusement park, Granbell Kingdom. One day he stumbles upon Rebecca and her cat companion Happy. When threats of a robo-rebellion rise, Shiki is must join the duo and escape to the boundless cosmos on their spaceship. What adventures await?

Fumetsu no Anata e

What is it about: A blank immortal being, with no emotions nor identity, is sent to the Earth. The being is able to take on the shape of things and beings around it. Over time and many journeys it gains a consciousness and seeks new experiences and places.

Since the below are continuations of anime, I do not really consider them to be ‘new’ anime per se and thus don’t include them in on my season list but I still want to mention the sequels I am looking forward to and will be watching.

Boku no Hero Academia 5th Season

Zombieland Saga: Revenge
